Released in 1977, Aja (pronounced "Asia") went on to become Steely Dan's best-selling album. The credits for Aja include nearly 40 musicians and band leaders Donald Fagen and Walter Becker pushed Steely Dan further into experimenting with different combinations of session players.
Eventually selling more than 5 million copies, Aja peaked at number 3 on the U.S. charts and number 5 in the U.K. Aja spawned several hit singles, including "Peg", "Deacon Blues", and "Josie".
In 2003, Aja was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. It ranks number 145 on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. The album is often used as a test recording for testing stereo equipment, due to its high production standards and fidelity.
